We're going on a rock hunt !

This week we have started our new science topic 'Rocks & Soils ' . We discovered lots of interesting rocks and crystals in our classroom and we were able to explore the different rocks and have a closer look using magnifying glasses .  

"One of the rocks has come all the way from Madagascar !" 

"Wow this rock has red sand , maybe it came from a desert ?" 

After we had a look at the rocks from all around the world we went on our own rock hunt to each find 1 rock to investigate in class  . 

We shared our rocks with each other and described its properties . 

"My rock has smooth and rough edges ". 

" I found a white rock and it has speckles on it ." 

"My rock still has lots of mud and sticks stuck to it ."

We took our rocks back to class to investigate further using magnifying glasses .  

" we are classifying our rocks by size ".

" We are classifying our rocks by texture ".
